I know, I know. Junk food is BAD for you but look at this bag. How could one pass up the opportunity to taste these chips saveur poulet braisé?? (roasted chicken potato chips)

As weird and gross as it sounds, these chips were not bad! I have to say too, that there is no chicken whatsoever in the ingredients. The French pretty much rule in the “arômes” (artificial flavors) domain and honestly, the potato chips tasted just like roasted chicken and it was very subtle but right on target flavor-wise. It has something to do with their expertise in perfumes – and uncoincidentally, it’s in their perfume factories that arômes are also made.

Sorry, but that sounds plain disgusting. BTW, go read this article:
Wal-Mart Eyes Organic Foods.
I wonder if it would taste like the chicken consomme flavor that we have in Japan??
Comment by Kat 06.14.06 @ 5:53 pmi know, elisabeth – that’s why i had to get them!
oh yeah, i’d heard about walmart wanting to go organic. i hate walmart and fear that they will lobby to change (lower) the standards of “organic” plus kill the independent organic farmers.
kat, it really does subtly taste like roasted chicken (but i can’t say it tastes like consomme in japan since i haven’t tried that
) it doesn’t taste like consomme that i know of.
Hmm, if you serve these with a hamburger, it would double your meat-eating sensation.
Comment by Marvin Gardens 06.15.06 @ 2:29 amyou crack me up marvin.
i was thinking too that vegans could eat these to find out what roast chicken tastes like (if they could bring themselves to accepting all the artificial flavors and other stuff in there.)
Comment by ptinfrance 06.15.06 @ 4:50 amThere’s some really disgusting passages in the book Fast Food Nation how French fries served at fast food places are flavor-enhanced to taste more like French fries. And yes, the principle of food-flavoring is the same as that used to make perfumes.
Comment by Elisabeth 06.15.06 @ 10:23 ame: i didn’t know that about fries-that’s so bizarre. i’m starting to look more carefully at the labels and artifical flavors are in practically EVERYTHING. i mentioned that to my mummy in-law and she said that her grandkids (my french nephews) will not eat the peas she prepared for them from her garden because they aren’t as good as the canned.
canned peas have artificial flavors!
I like these ‘chips’, the taste is very good, it really the right. miam !
Comment by Missteigne 09.07.06 @ 8:01 pmOK, we had these while in Paris year before last and they are…FABULOUS! As the description says, they’re not for those unwilling to pollute their bodies with anything but nuts and twigs. But those folks obviously put a low priority on taste anyway and taste is what these babies are all about.
My wife is pressuring me for another trip to Europe…just to get some more of these. There’s gotta be a way to get these things stateside. A similar chip is made by Humpty Dumpty in eastern Canada. That’s still a bit of a trip from here in CA but it’s better than Europe.
If you like snacks, you’ll love ‘em!
Comment by Bob 03.16.08 @ 4:26 pmI just got back from Paris and I tried the Roasted Rosemary chicken flavor. OMG was it ever good!! The French have a way with the chip. I’m online right now trying to find out how to buy them!!
