Ze Bus just announced the dates of their tours around western France, so if you want to see parts of France while surfing the best spots, this is your ticket. You don’t necessarily need to know how to surf. Maybe you like hanging with surfers, I dunno.
Anyway, there are different tours to choose from and some tours are more custumizeable – and it sounds like a perfect thing to do to decompress from school or work and meet new people who are adventurous like you.

This is so cool! My husband is a total sufer dude and, in September 2003, we drove up the Basque coast from the Spanish border up to les Landes, checking every surf spot: it was fantastic! We even got an “insider’s map” with the best spots, breaks points and swell periods. I have a particularly found memory of Hossegor and its Hôtel de la Plage…
Comment by Frog in L.A. 06.20.06 @ 7:40 pmi’ve been dying to check out that part of france. you normally don’t think about surfing in france but i’ve heard that there’s some excellent surfing spots here. this tour does look pretty cool.
Comment by ptinfrance 06.21.06 @ 1:16 pmA little bit of history from The Encyclopedia Of Surfing (written by Matt Warshaw): “Surf was introduced to France in 1956 when Hollywood screenwriter Peter Viertel, on location in Biarritz to film ‘The Sun Also Rises’, took note of the local waves and sent back to Malibu for his surfboards (…)”
All the surfer dudes, famous and not so famous, have been following since, and it’s become one of the top surf destinations. The world championships are held there. Biarritz itself is not the best spot (and best looking beach): there’s plenty of fantastic surfing gems up (Anglet, Hossegor, …) and down (Hendaye, St. Jean de Luz, Guéthary, Bidart, …) Definitely worth a trip!
Comment by Frog in L.A. 06.21.06 @ 2:03 pmi love stories like that! of course, he could’ve just bought a surf board in france! i hope we’ll be able to see that area this year. i’ve been as far as biarritz (which i found overrated) but i’d like to go farther south.
