gamelle restaurant toronto

And they say that Canadians are sooooooooooo nice. This ad’s from a French restaurant in Toronto, and with a tagline like: “French Food without the attitude,” I just wondered what that’s all aboot.

Rude, eh?

I’m from Toronto and I find this ad offensive and uncalled for. What’s the name of the restaurant? I might lodge a complaint. If they did the same thing with a negative Chinese, Italian or Mexican stereotype, they wouldn’t be able to get away with it; I don’t see why the French should not be given the same respect. I question whether this place serves real French food at all.

If it’s an actual French restaurant, maybe they are just using derision by saying that you won’t get the “French attitude” Americans often complain about (the joys of cultural differences.) Like Eric, the Paris Daily Photo blogger who describes himself as a “Friendly Parisian (yes, it does exist!)”

As a French person who’s had to put up with French-bashing in the U.S., I don’t find the ad offensive. I do get my share of “You’re really nice for a French person” in L.A., though ;)

I’m french too and I only started to like french cuisine in my mid twenties when i was in the US, precisely because it was french food without the attitude. It’s not offensive at all, it’s a great selling point !

i find this gamelle restaurant ad to be pretty rude and now i wonder if it’s a hoax. i mean with the cut off middle finger and all. strangely i don’t find the eurostar ad offensive because i think it’s supposed to be silly fun.

fab, you’re fab.

l.a. frog, i wonder how you’d react if you hadn’t experienced so much french bashing. without the previous experience maybe you’d then consider this ad offensive. “you’re nice for a french person” is so incredibly rude and ignorant and ridiculous!
