this place is a must, kat and bob.

sandrine, you're probably right about the food coloring though they are so pretty!

rosette au poivre vert. the peppers didn't crack the teeth like other rosettes. these were crispy and lusciously peppery. sooooo gooooood.

i'm sure you can find some great cheeses au lait cru in your area. there must be local, sustainable farmers everywhere. i love santa cruz (i used to live nearby in monterey for a little while).

Ladurée doesn't carry those parisian macaroons because they use better ingredients, the ones displayed here aux halles de Lyon must be filled with food coloring, it's fun but Ladurée is more traditional therefore using better ingredients...
Is that sausage a "rosette"??
A staple of Lyon's gastronomy!
I grew up in Villefranche sur Saône, near Lyon...
Hmm St Marcellin !!!!
Of the things I miss from France (I now live in Santa Cruz, CA) those kind of cheeses and other unpasterized and aged ones top my list...
But we do have a great cheese shop in town though, I won't complain, but hey, it's not the same, and it's okay

When I was in Lyon, I did not go to Les Halles even though it was only a couple blocks from my place. I had no plans to cook and figured I would let the experts do that. I did go to Paul Bocuse. Even Ladurée didn't have that great a variety of macarons.
