Mmm… not to take the jerk’s side, but French humor for me is often….. not funny. Perhaps he meant to say that perhaps you won’t understand it because it’s a culture thing?

On the other hand, I have been asked at comedy shows or films whether I’m fake laughing or not by the french!!

nice of you to give someone the benefit of the doubt, jooree. it’s possible but even so it’s very rude and a DICKWAD thing to say that. but what really bugged me is that how can someone possibly KNOW what a person can understand?? how does someone know what’s inside your head?

also, i’m definitely not an expert on france but i suppose i understand a bit culturally now that i’ve lived in france for 6 six years and previously lived in france for 2 years (in school). that’s a total of 8 years! of course, there are always mysterious cultural anomalies nuances that i’ll never “get”…

but that’s not a problem, when you think you didn’t get it just ask. I’m in switzerland for years and I can tell you the “Swiss german” is quiete different from “Normal German” I learnt a lot by now just by asking and it makes always more fun to speak the language better. Ask perhaps that Frenchies if he would be able to understand the “finesses” in English…
